Harlow is a town in the county of Essex, England. It is different from most other towns and cities in the UK in that it is one of eight planned and newly developed communities.
Building work began in 1947 and this year Harlow has celebrated its 60th Anniversary. However, despite that fact that the town was planned and built in the modern age, it is actually based on a historic site and as such has a number of listed buildings and places of historic interest.
Like any other town, it is home to people of all ages who come to the town for employment and to live. The town centre itself is home to a range of shops, bars and restaurants, many of which are national 'chain' establishments, making it an ideal base for the young person.
Transport links to Harlow are good with regular bus services and taxis. In fact, Harlow is one of a very limited number of places that operate 'black cabs' outside of London. Another reason for the towns popularity (most particularly with the young) is its location. It is situated at Junction 11 of the M11 and has Cambridge to the North and London to the South. This makes it an ideal commuter location for those that work in the city but maybe cannot afford to live there!
There is a rail service that operates from London Liverpool Street to the railway station at Harlow and is called the 'rail one' service. Transport links are also good in term of non-UK destinations with the Channel Tunnel being very accessible and excellent links to a number of international airports. There is a express rail service that goes through Harlow to Stanstead airport and, as such, it is possible to be at the airport within 20 minutes (this is also the amount of time it would take to reach by road). There is also a bus service linking Stanstead and Heathrow airports that runs through Harlow.
Unsurprisingly, given its location and excellent transport links, Harlow isn't the cheapest place in which to buy property. Like many other towns and cities in the UK, there are many people struggling to get onto the housing ladder here and there are companies that are taking steps to address the situation. There is a range of property companies that have built houses in the town and so there is a choice of newly built houses, whatever you requirements may be.
